Honeysuckle Joyride

Honeysuckle Joyride (2021) 12:37
A video essay considering the themes of decay, queer kinship and the Irish landscape through a post-humanist lens. Buried in the bogs of Connemara and Belfast’s Divis and Black Mountain, Mehigan considers the terrain of hyper-real CG, the slow death of Instagram, and Irish gardening histories through the intimate materialities of queer life and death. Part of COVEN’s bogside down pt. i.

A Conversation on Care

(July 4 2021) 52:18
Having worked and shared online space together many times over the last year, SchwarzRund and Anisha Müller had a long overdue catch up about community work during a pandemic. How did this time affect accessibility, community and what has that got to do with empowerment? They unpick the idea of ‘Health’ in their own work and experience (what does health really mean? Who is it for?), thinking about the foundations of white ableist institutions, but also dreaming up alternatives for the future. Documentation of a live event at Feldfünf project space by COVEN BERLIN titled AN INVITATION TO SINK INTO THE BOG.

TUNIC

TUNIC (2022) 5:08
TUNIC departs from Rosi Braidotti's contention that myths are always political fictions – staged and restaged, told and retold in fragments and slippery allusions. In TUNIC, an actor in a boat becomes a god who assumes the sheen of a mythical era, the boat becomes a swan suddenly tasked with enormous consequence. TUNIC works with mythic camp: the ridiculousness of epic beauty, the pleasure of perpetually becoming otherwise, the refusal of The Moral, the anti-aspirational, the hilarious, the sublime.

A leak, a draft, a mold, a flame

A leak, a draft, a mold, a flame (2022) 7:00
Body like building holds and conceals its inner workings inside the facade of their skinbrick. We usually wouldn't know that something needs a special and urgent attention until an element permeates this functional illusion. A leak, a draft, a mold, a flame. Side by side and back to back, four thin walls for the working class. Water, pipes, electrics, internet wires, intertwined interdependently. If I'm clogged, you're clogged... Where is the community care for how close our bodies come into contact through these slim membranes? The challenges we face day to day collectively and independently? If I’m clogged, you’re clogged.

"The first time I stepped into marsh water was when I was about 7. One of the first sunny days in early May. My friend’s family took me along with them to the reservoir. We were all neighbors living in the same street on the outskirts, and in the summer all the kids were biking there quite often. But at that time we probably were still too young to go there by ourselves..."

Climate defines our diets and clothing habits, but certainly the most intricate interactions occur at deeper levels – deserts or jungles, the closeness to big waters or high mountains determine the way we perceive ourselves and others and feel about this strange thing called “life”..."

"There are things common for all cultures, things that make us who we are: fragile and strong; empathetic and desperate; at times giving a hand to those in need, at other times ready to accept help; and our ability to tell stories. Our stories are based on individual memories, emotions, and experiences, and by telling them we shape collective memory, and thus historical and national discourse..."

"I’ve spent a lot of the last years in bogland – literal and metaphysical. For six years I obsessively returned to a river in Lancashire, (U.K.). I spent most of my time on top of the peat fells (big swathes of high altitude, boggy moorland with flat tops), looking for the source of small rivers that swell out of the wetland and spill down the cracks they make in the hillsides..."
